David Brown 880 Selectamatic Tractor

In October 1965, David Brown brought out their range of white tractors. They introduced the 770, 880 and 990, ranging from 36hp, to 46hp and 55hp respectively. The David Brown Selectamatic range had a new hydraulic system and were more advanced than older models. Having stopped production of the 50D in 1959 due to lack interest, demand steadily grew for a more powerful tractor. In 1967, David Brown decided to build the 1200 model with 67hp, but quickly found that it needed more power and so upgraded it to 72hp.

This is an excellent example of a classic David Brown 880 Selectamatic tractor, with power steering conversion. It has had a bare metal respray. New wings and front, battery, lights and hydraulic pumps have been fitted. Oils and filters have been changed. Good tyres.

1961-65: Red 850, 880 and 990 Implematic David Brown Tractors were built.
1965-70: White 770 and 880 Selectamatic were made.
1965-71: White 990 Selectamatic Tractor was made.
1967-71: White 780 and 1200 Selectamatic were built.

Between 1971 and 1980, David Brown tractors were building 885, 990, 995, 996, and 1210 Selectamatic models, and the 1212 Hydra-Shift. These tractors had the new emblem, where the D in DB was pointed, which was nick- named the bottle opener badge.

In spring 1973, David Brown tractors were affiliated with J.I. Case tractors. In 1974, the Chocolate Brown paintwork was replaced with Power Red. From 1974-80 they were also building the larger 1410 and 1412, with 91hp engines, and 1976 saw the introduction of the quiet cab.

In December 1979 David Brown updated their range for 1980, the 90 series. These tractor models included the 1190 (44hp), 1290 (58hp), 1390 (67hp), 1490 (83hp) and the 1690 (103hp 6 cylinder). All, except the 1190, were available in four wheel drive option.

In 1983, the 90 series was upgraded to the 94 series, with the Power Red paint on the castings becoming black. The David Brown name was replaced by Case decals. The range was now the 1194 (48hp), 1294 (61hp), 1394 (72hp), 1494 (83hp), 1594 (95hp) 6 cylinder, and 1694 (108hp) with turbo and 4 wheel drive hydra-shift transmission.
